The debut that isn't a debut, I'd never realised how truly great this album was since Genesis reach legendary heights forthwith. Sadly, my opinions hew far too closely to progarchives to claim originality of opinion. When taken in context as the beginnings of the era and the records that probably influenced those to come they stand tall as gargantuan slabs of monster rock. Notably, few of these are listed as the defining classics of prog rock, but that made them stand out all the more to me. (incorporating the best progressive rock album of the year) I also thought I'd offer up my own thoughts on the prog landscape – for all the pleasure it's given for me, and for the fact I know I'm only just starting to get acquainted with this material (I think I listened to maybe 7 new albums yesterday and went yep yep yep yep yep love it). It wasn't until 1970 that we got a bunch of those 20+ minute tracks that we all love and adoreĪnd so, having finally listened my way through a decent offering of what 1970 had to offer I thought I'd throw open the question, what is your favourite prog record of 1970? And what prog of 1970 do you think deserves more attention than it currently gets. It wasn't until I hit 1970 that I came to a year whereby I truly felt that progressive rock had arrived, at least in the sense that there was an outpouring of tremendous material that one could really spend some time wanting to get to know. And so I found myself listening to the beginnings of prog from 1967/8 onwards. Thanks to Corona I've found myself at home a lot this last year and so I needed a project.
